Introduction to LSHTM's work on gender-based violence

Trigger warning: This session will deal with issues including gender and sexual violence and abuse. 

This introductory event will begin with an introduction of the鈥痮rganising鈥疞SHTM鈥痗entres:鈥Centre for Maternal, Adolescent, Reproductive, & Child Health (MARCH)鈥痑苍诲鈥Gender Violence and鈥疕ealth Centre (GVHC). The speaker will then give an overview of what gender-based violence is and why it is important to public health, discussing current events in gender-based violence, and the research base on what we know about 鈥樷欌痶o鈥痯revent gender-based violence.鈥

Professor Susannah Mayhew, co-Director of MARCH and Professor in Health Policy, Systems and Reproductive Health, LSHTM. 

Susannah Mayhew is co-Director of the Maternal Adolescent Reproductive and Child Health Centre and Professor in Health Policy, Systems and Reproductive Health at LSHTM. Her research interests are in policy analysis, policy implementation, governance and accountability research 鈥 including community engagement; health systems and systems integration research (including in epidemic-response); and reproductive healths and rights.

Ana Maria Buller is the Director of the Gender, Violence and Health Centre and Associate Professor in Social Sciences at LSHTM. She has 18 years鈥 experience conducting mixed鈥痬ethods鈥痵ocial science research, in the areas of gender-based violence, social norms change and women鈥檚 economic and social empowerment.鈥
