Principles of humanitarian public health

Lecture Theatre

This lecture will outline the health consequences of different crises and introduce key principles for humanitarian action to reduce excess morbidity and mortality and restore disrupted health systems. We will focus mainly on armed conflicts and displaced populations.

Francesco Checchi is an epidemiologist whose main expertise is quantitative public health measurement and disease control in crisis (armed conflict, natural disaster, epidemic) settings. Checchi has worked for Medecins Sans Frontieres, the World Health Organization and as a consultant for a variety of other agencies. He has spent several years at the School (2004-2012, 2017-present), and in between led Save the Children's humanitarian health team.
