Aiming for net-zero health operations: Approaches and interim results of the Aga Khan Health Services
Evidence of the health sector’s significant contribution to carbon emissions is relatively new. Thus far, most of the data has been generated from wealthier countries and dependent upon the engagement of specialist sustainability consultants.
In this talk, Fawzia Rasheed describes initiatives within the (AKHS) where regular staff members are being trained to examine and respond to their carbon footprint. Interim results and emerging opportunities towards their net-zero ambitions are covered. The benefits of hands-on engagement by health professionals and their potential leadership on this agenda will be reflected upon, too. AKHS is a not-for-profit organisation with nearly 400 health facilities and hospitals in eight countries: Afghanistan, India, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, and Tanzania.
This talk is aimed at anyone interested in planetary health and the sustainability of health care systems. It will include a presentation from the speaker followed by Q&A. This event will be chaired by Dr Penny Murage.
