Student engagement

LSHTM uses a variety of student feedback mechanisms to ensure that there is full student engagement in quality assurance and enhancement activities, for example surveys and representation on key committees and panels.

The Student Charter (pdf) summarises the standards of service LSHTM expects and aspires to offer students, as well as the standards of conduct which students should expect and aspire to follow in turn. Students and prospective students are encouraged to read this.

National surveys (PTES & PRES)

LSHTM takes part in two national surveys, the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES), and the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) delivered by . The surveys are designed to inform sector bodies and policy makers about the experience of our Students and to help LSHTM understand what they are doing well and where they could do better. LSHTM will carefully consider the survey feedback and try to identify areas where improvements can be made to benefit all students.

PTES (for intensive MSc, PGDip and PGCert students) takes place annually, and PRES (for research degree students) biennially. Students enrolled on a joint course with Kings College and the RVC will be surveyed by the partner institution.

How do I take part in surveys 2021?

All intensive postgraduate students enrolled at the LSHTM will receive an email with a link to the PTES in the summer term 2021.

In 2020 the LSHTM ran the PTES which had a response rate of 38% from students on intensive programmes, and the PRES which had a response rate of 25% from research degree students.

Student involvement in committees

Student representatives are members of Senate and its sub-Committees and represent the student voice by reporting into LSHTM’s committee structure. For more information on student representation on committees, please see the Committees webpage and Chapter 10 of the LSHTM Academic Manual.

Students’ Representative Council

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) is an independent, student-led body that represents the interests of master’s and doctoral degree students at LSHTM. For more information please see the SRC page.

Student involvement in quality assurance processes

LSHTM uses a variety of student feedback mechanisms to ensure that there is full student engagement in quality assurance and enhancement processes, for example surveys, committees, panels and informal feedback. The ways and methods in which these student feedback mechanisms function are detailed in full in the LSHTM Academic Manual.
