Public Announcement of Strike at MRCG and Suspension of Clinical Services in Fajara and Keneba

The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia (MRCG) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, regrets to inform the public that, on 16 December 2024, the MRCG Workers’ Union plans to go on a sit-down strike. We recognise our employees’ right to voice their opinions and have always encouraged dialogue.

While we are currently working with the relevant stakeholders to find an amicable solution, we regret to inform the public that, clinical services provided to the public in Fajara and Keneba will be suspended with effect from Monday 16thDecember 2024.

We would like to assure the public that we fully understand the impact this may have on the Gambian populationWe will keep you informed on the situation and will provide information on the resumption of services once it becomes available. Participants in current MRCG clinical trials who need medical care during this period should please contact the study staff at their study sites, to arrange to be seen.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause to our stakeholders and the communities we work with and serve.  Thank you for your understanding during this time.
