About

The purpose of the LSHTM MHPSS Research Network is to support collaborative research on MHPSS at LSHTM and partners. The network will encourage links between LSHTM researchers and collaborators working on different MHPSS topics and research disciplines, through meetings, special events, and sharing information, including through a regular newsletter.  We very much encourage members to join the network

Research

LSHTM has been involved in a wide range of MHPSS research studies, global support for preparedness and response, and training. We work with many partners, and further details on our research can be found on our Research page. Examples of our research outputs can be found on our Publications page.

Events and Newsletters

The MHPSS Research Network at LSHTM organises and promotes MHPSS research events, providing a forum for sharing internally, and to external groups and opportunities.

Paragraph

There are over 200 million people affected by armed conflict globally, including over 90 million forcibly displaced persons such as refugees and internally displaced persons. There are millions more affected by public health emergencies, natural disasters, extreme weather events and other effects of climate change. These events can all have major consequences on the mental health and wellbeing of crisis-affected persons.

Mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) includes any type of support that people receive to protect or promote their mental health and psychosocial wellbeing.  Staff at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and partners have been involved in a wide range of research, teaching and guidance on MHPSS needs and responses around the world.

Purpose

The purpose of the MHPSS Research Network at LSHTM is to support collaborative research on MHPSS at LSHTM and partners. We wish to encourage links between LSHTM researchers and academic non-academic partners working on different MHPSS topics and research disciplines.

Our objectives are to:

  1. Foster a supportive environment for MHPSS research at LSHTM
  2. Support the full research cycle on MHPSS at LSHTM
  3. Raise the internal and external visibility of MHPSS research at LSHTM
  4. Support connections with operational and policy agencies to maximise the impact the MHPSS research at LSHTM
  5. Facilitate MHPSS research capacity strengthening activities
