What does a future free from pandemics look like? How can the world learn from its past mistakes? What solutions do epidemic preparedness and response experts offer?   

´³´Ç¾±²Ô  chief scientific writer and former Reuters global health and science correspondent, Kate Kelland, and LSHTM's Professor Adam Kucharski for a discussion on how to prevent the major pitfalls in pandemic response.  

The conversation will delve into the issues by drawing on Kate's newly-published book DISEASE X – The 100 Days Mission to End Pandemics, which features her insights from unique access to interviews with health security experts and those involved on the frontline of pandemic response. Professor  Kucharski will share how researchers at the Centre for Epidemic Preparedness & Response have and are currently contributing to the preparedness and prevention of disease threats, from modelling the spread of COVID-19 to outbreaks such as Ebola and Zika.  

This in-person event will include an opportunity to buy a signed copy of the book at a discounted price of £20 following the discussion.  Books can be purchased using cash or card.

Kate Kelland, CEPI

Kate Kelland joined the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) as Chief Scientific Writer in August 2021 after almost three decades as a Reuters journalist where she was global health and science correspondent. Her book, DISEASE X – The 100 Days Mission to End Pandemics, was published in February 2023.  

Adam Kucharski, LSHTM

Adam Kucharski is a Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Sir Henry Dale Fellow at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Co-Director of the Centre for Epidemic Preparedness & Response at LSHTM. He is author of The Rules of Contagion, named as a Times, Guardian and FT Science Book of the Year.
