Children, Chills and Chances

Shunmay Yeung will reflect on what it means to be a paediatrician, researcher and teacher working in global health and infectious disease on staying curious, finding balance and flexing between disciplines, cultures, research, policy and action.

House and children running in Cambodia

In this inaugural lecture, Professor Shunmay Yeung will reflect on her life and career to date, from the very beginning as a hyperactive, wide-eyed 12-year-old who wanted to explore the world and do something useful to now. You’ll hear about the challenges of multi-drug resistant Malaria on the Cambodia-Thai border, Ebola in West Africa and the puzzle of dealing with children with fever – everywhere. Drawing on a range of approaches including modelling, health economics and social science, Shunmay will seek to share some of her adventures in research, and the choices and chances that shaped the journey.

Please note the lecture takes place from 17.15 - 18.15 followed by a drinks reception in the South Courtyard.
