Centre for Statistical Methodology Symposium

Co-hosted by the Royal Statistical Society, The Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford, and the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College.

It is 50 years since Sir David Cox’s seminal paper on what is now called the Cox model for the analysis of event time data was published in the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society (Cox, DR. Regression Models and Life Tables. JRSS (Series B) 1972; 34(2): 187-202.). The Cox model has been used in applications across many areas of research, as well as inspiring wide-ranging methodological developments. It is one of the most highly cited scientific papers.

This one-day symposium will celebrate 50 years of the Cox model and will remember the work of Sir David Cox (1924-2022) more generally, including some of his many other contributions to statistics. The full list of speakers and schedule for the day is shown below.

The symposium will take place at LSHTM, in the building where David Cox read his paper to the Royal Statistical Society in 1972.

Refreshments and lunch will be served, and the day will be followed by an evening reception.
