Blood, snot and rectal swabs: a journey through epidemiology
Anna Roca will reflect on her career in global health starting in the lab and quickly moving to epidemiology, her passion.
Anna did her MSc in epidemiology at the LSHTM more than 20 years ago, after finishing her PhD at the University of Barcelona. Although she wanted to work in malaria and has always been supervised by renowned malariologists, her work has had little to do with malaria. She will talk about the places her work has taken her and her family both in Europe and Africa.
Speaker
is a Professor of Epidemiology at LSHTM and Deputy Theme Leader of Disease Control and Elimination at the MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM. Her work on bacterial and viral respiratory infections has impacted regulatory decision-making in both Mozambique and The Gambia. During the last few years, her portfolio has mainly focused on the impact of using oral azithromycin on bacterial transmission and disease. More recently, her research has supported the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in The Gambia.
