Adolescents 360:  Effect and cost-effectiveness of human-centred design-based approaches to increase adolescent uptake of modern contraceptives in Nigeria, Ethiopia and Tanzania
Adolescents 360 (A360) was a four-year initiative (2016 – 2020) to increase adolescent girls’ access to and demand for modern contraception in Nigeria, Ethiopia and Tanzania. A360 encompassed an integrated design approach based on human-centred design (HCD) to develop interventions aimed at modifying sexual and reproductive health behaviours. While HCD approaches are documented in the literature, limited evidence exists on the role of these approaches in increasing program effectiveness. The external outcome evaluation involved before-after studies of adolescent girls (15-19 years) in four settings in three countries with comparison groups and hence a quasi-experimental study design in two of the settings. In this seminar we will present the final external outcome and cost-effectiveness findings and discuss implications for adolescent reproductive health programming.
