Educational/professional background

I completed an Integrated Master's in Molecular Cell Biology at the University of York in 2023. This involved the integration of multiple disciplines across biology, including immunology and cell biology. My Master's project investigated autophagy in leishmaniasis, using CRISPR/cas9 gene technology to understand certain protein roles. After graduating, I then applied for my PhD in infectious and tropical diseases.

Research interests or career goals

My research interests broadly cover our immune system, and how it works on a molecular level. I have a specific interest in gene editing tools, as I believe they are integral in understanding the cells' mechanisms to combat infection. Regarding my career goals, I believe that my PhD will give me the necessary skills and steppingstones to understanding academia and research, and what exciting prospects will await me next.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

I chose LSHTM for a number of reasons. As the top leading school in the UK for public health, LSHTM's values and research ethics importantly align well with mine, and I knew that my programme would facilitate my capabilities as an early career research scientist. The School has an extensive collaborative network globally, and I wanted to be a part of that community of support and partnership.
