I graduated in 2020 with a bachelor of science in nursing with a passion for public health. I leveraged my skills as a public health manager during the COVID-19 pandemic where I led a vaccine-preventable disease team. During my time as a manager I furthered my knowledge by gaining two graduate diplomas in dementia care and addictions & mental health. Currently a public health nurse for Indigenous Services Canada, while pursuing my Master's degree.
Research interests or career goals
My long-term career goal is to assume a leadership role as a Nursing Manager or Policy Maker. I aspire to drive positive change within the Canadian public health system. By leveraging my clinical expertise and public health experience, I aim to develop and implement innovative strategies that address critical health challenges. My research interests lie in the field of infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis. I am committed to contributing to the development of evidence-based interventions to combat this persistent global health threat. My ultimate objective is to improve the overall health and well-being of Canadians, particularly vulnerable populations.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I chose the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) for its world-renowned reputation and impressive track record in public health research. This prestigious institution offers a flexible learning environment with a diverse range of electives, allowing me to tailor my studies to my specific interests and career goals. By pursuing a degree at LSHTM, I aim to broaden my global perspective and enhance my ability to contribute to public health initiatives. The Public Health by Distance Learning program provides the ideal balance of work, study, and personal life, enabling me to apply my acquired knowledge directly to my current role at Indigenous Services Canada.
