Educational/professional background
Dr Dave Ojijo is a medical doctor and a planetary health advocate with over four years of experience in medical practice, climate change and health-related advocacy. Dave is a 2024 Mandela Washington Fellow alumnus and Hintze Scholarship awardee pursuing MSc Climate Change and Planetary Health at LSHTM. He serves as the chair of the Kenya Medical Association Planetary Committee and the executive director of Green Health Focus, organizations committed to bridging the gap between climate and health through education and advocacy. He has empowered over 400 young healthcare professionals to bridge access to care to communities impacted by extreme weather events through free medical camps and climate health education. His most recent speaking engagements include: COP 28 in the UAE-Dubai, ACS-2023, and UNEA-6, where he discussed the effects of climate change on public health.
Research interests or career goals
Exploring the impact of climate change on health systems, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). His ultimate career goal is to work with UN agencies, such as WHO, to address global health and climate challenges
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
Dave chose LSHTM for its academic excellence, interdisciplinary approach, and strong links to the WHO Collaborating Centre on Climate Change and Planetary Health. These factors align with his goal of creating adaptive, climate-resilient healthcare systems globally.
