I am Chiqui de Veyra from the Philippines. I am taking MSc Public Health for Global Practice. Prior to my postgraduate studies, I worked extensively in health, development, and international cooperation. I started my public health work at the National Institutes of Health as a research associate and eventually led several projects on prevention and control of infectious diseases, particularly NTDs. Later, I joined the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) as Program Coordinator for Health and Gender. Currently, I serve as a Health Technical Advisor for a USAID program. I also do consulting work on several areas of public health including health systems, policy, and financing. In these roles, I oversee activities that support key national health agencies in the Philippines.
Research interests or career goals
After completing my MSc, I plan to transition from bilateral to multilateral organizations. My interests include infectious diseases, gender, WASH, One Health, health systems, financing, policy, economics, and management.
Why I chose LSHTM / my programme
I chose the MSc Public Health for Global Practice program because it offers a comprehensive foundation in the theory and practice of global health. The program is a perfect fit for developing the practical and strategic expertise needed to advance public health in various contexts – may it be in developing or developed countries.
