Educational/Professional Background

I had my medical education and training in Ghana. After medical school, I worked in tertiary and rural hospitals, and this helped me to appreciate the gaps and health inequalities that continue to plague the health system and different populations. In the last two years, I have been working in rural Gambia on a large clinical trial investigating different schedules of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in children under-five.

Research interests or career goals

My dream has always been to contribute to bringing quality health to underserved populations. Given how infectious diseases continue to disproportionately afflict low- and middle-income countries, I look forward to acquiring further expertise so I can contribute to reducing the burden. I have interests in pneumococcal and malaria therapeutic and vaccine research as well as implementation science.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

I chose to undertake the Infectious Diseases by Distance Learning Programme at LSHTM because of its depth and breadth. The flexibility of the distance learning program and the course itself stood out for me. The opportunity to lay a good foundation in understanding infectious diseases through the core modules and the flexibility to tailor the elective modules based on my particular interests is amazing.

Additional Information

As a Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholar, I could offer some useful advice on applying for scholarships.
