The Unit鈥檚 Statistics and Data science team built researcher capacity in data efficiency through an in-house STATA training focused on programming and good practice for data management. The training was part of the Unit鈥檚 ambitious, transformative capacity development initiatives contributing to grooming data science experts with expertise in conducting industry standard data analysis, managing datasets, representing findings, and analyzing our novel research on HIV, emerging and re-emerging infections.
The training targeted data science experts from research programs and research support sectors to develop and strengthen their data management skills using STATA. Participants were equipped with programming skills such as creating customized reports and working efficiently with loops.
The Unit has over fourty experts within the Statistics and Data science section who use modern and industry-leading data systems such as OpenClinica, Open Data Kit (ODK), and REDCap. The section is also a regional leader in capacity-building, with senior staff lecturing at LSHTM and thus contributing to knowledge exchange and transfer in academia.
The MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit is an internationally recognized center of excellence for research in HIV, emerging and re-emerging infections, and non-communicable diseases. Our mission is to conduct high-quality research that adds knowledge and leads to improved control of infectious and non-communicable diseases in Uganda, Africa, and globally through the translation of scientific findings into policy and practice and rigorous research capacity building.
LSHTM's short courses provide opportunities to study specialised topics across a broad range of public and global health fields. From AMR to vaccines, travel medicine to clinical trials, and modelling to malaria, refresh your skills and join one of our short courses today.
