Unit scientists recognized as HIV/AIDS heroes

Two of the Unit鈥檚 senior scientists have been recognized for their contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Prof. Pontiano Kaleebu, the Unit Director and Head of the Basic Sciences Programme and Prof. Anatoli Kamali, the Deputy Director and Head of HIV Epidemiology and Prevention Programme were among the select Ugandan scientists that were recognized as part of the 2016 Heroes鈥 Day celebrations.

The list of 16 Scientists titled, 鈥淢edical Heroes at the frontline of the AIDS fight鈥, which appeared in the national Daily, The New Vision, included among others Joint Clinical Research Centre鈥檚 (JCRC) Prof. Peter Mugenyi; Rakai Health Services鈥 Prof. David Serwadda; Makerere University鈥檚 Prof. Nelson Sewankambo and The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) founder Dr. Noerine Kaleeba.
