What is Diagnosis London?
London鈥檚 Pulse is a digital archive of the annual reports of the Medical Officers of Health for London. They contain information on a wide range of topics related to health and welfare between 1848 and 1972. The availability of these sources in digital format is a great opportunity for research. However, the volume of material can be overwhelming. Diagnosis London aims to make the annual reports more accessible and useful to researchers.
The Diagnosis London project has been developed to help researchers overcome the difficulties presented by the volume of the dataset in London鈥檚 Pulse. Our approach is to use volunteers to tag pages, allowing them to be categorised and utilised for further research. We are currently looking for potential collaborators, from any branch of the social sciences or history, who have research questions relevant to these sources but for whom keyword searching is impractical or ineffective. If that鈥檚 you, please get in touch.

Diagnosis London is a Zooniverse citizen-science project, part of the Constructing Scientific Communities investigation, led by Prof. Sally Shuttleworth of the University of Oxford.
