CGCC Annual Symposium 2024

Yellow and orange graphic with black text promoting CGCC annual symposium

Registrations for the LSHTM Centre for Global Chronic Conditions (CGCC) Annual Symposium are now open!

Join us for two days of lively discussion and knowledge exchange around this year鈥檚 theme: collaborations in cardiometabolic risk factor and disease research, including hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

The Symposium will offer an opportunity for participating institutions to highlight ongoing or planned work on cardiometabolic disease, available resources, future priorities, and opportunities for collaboration. Across the two days, you will have the chance to hear from colleagues across several LSHTM-affiliated global research sites about their ongoing work into cardiometabolic risk factors and disease, followed by Q&A and discussion. You will also have the opportunity to hear from LSHTM's Strategic Research Office to find out more about funding opportunities available in this area.

Key event details

Dates: 8-9 May 2024

Format: Hybrid

To facilitate global collaboration, this year鈥檚 Symposium will take place as a hybrid event across several LSHTM hubs: MRC Unit The Gambia, London Keppel St, MEIRU Malawi, MRC Unit Uganda, and THRU-ZIM Zimbabwe. The primary host of the Symposium will be MRC Unit The Gambia, with each hub hosting local participation via Zoom. You are therefore encouraged to attend in-person at your local site, where you will have the chance to connect with colleagues based across LSHTM hubs working on cardiometabolic risk factor and disease research.

Join in-person at any of the following LSHTM local hubs:

  • MRC Unit The Gambia (Fajara)
  • LSHTM London (Keppel St)
  • MEIRU Malawi (Lilongwe)
  • MRC Unit Uganda (Entebbe)
  • THRU-ZIM Zimbabwe (Harare)

For those who cannot join in-person, a Zoom link will be made available to join remotely.

For those joining in-person in London, the Symposium will be followed by a picnic in Russell Square on Thursday 9 May, organised by CGCC's Student Liaison Officers. Open to all, the picnic is an opportunity for LSHTM students to speak more closely with staff working on global chronic conditions from across the School, giving them a chance to ask questions or seek advice on pursuing their own careers in a relaxed, informal setting. Whether you are a student or a staff researcher, please join us for food and fun in the park!
