The UK Public Health Rapid Support Team: Research Progress and working with the RST

The UK Public Health Rapid Support Team is a partnership between LHSTM and Public Health England, funded by the UK Government Department for Health and Social Care, with University of Oxford and Kings College London as academic partners.

Launched in November 2016, the UK-PHRST responds to outbreaks, conducts operational research and builds capacity for preparedness, detection and response to outbreaks of infectious diseases in low and middle countries.

At this session we will present findings from three research projects covering microbiology, epidemiology and mental health and well-being.

There will also be an opportunity to meet and interact with members of the Core Deployable Team to learn more about the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team's work.

  1. Ben Gannon (Senior Microbiologist, PHE) Effective diagnostics and laboratory outbreak capability for Gastrointestinal pathogens in Freetown, Sierra Leone
  2. Judith Glynn (Professor, LSHTM) Effect of acute illness on contact patterns in Malawi
  3. Temitope Ademosu (South London and Maudsley Trust/Kings College London) Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in humanitarian crises desk review: Sierra Leone

Please do stay after the talks for refreshments and a chance to chat with the members of the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team.
