Moving TB epidemic control beyond the 2018 High Level Meeting: Next steps
This annual lecture is organised in honour of the life and work of . Steve was Professor of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and an active member of the and worked closely with the Desmond Tutu HIV Centre at the University of Cape Town (UCT), where he was based from 2005 to 2012. Steve worked tirelessly to improve the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis among people living with HIV/AIDS. He authored over 250 publications and received many awards.
The funds the Stephen Lawn TB-HIV Research Leadership Prize for an early researcher conducting work focused on reducing the disease burden of HIV associated TB in Africa. The recipient was announced at The Union conference in October 2018 and we are delighted to confirm the winner, Dr Christine Sekaggya-Wiltshire, will be present. Dr Sekaggya-Wiltshire leads the HIV-TB clinic at the Infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University in Kampala. She supervises care for complex cases of TB that are referred from health centres, and has conducted pharmacokinetic studies on anti-TB drugs in HIV patients.
