Missing Millions: How older people with disabilities are excluded from humanitarian response
Join us for the launch of a new report exploring how the millions of older people affected by humanitarian crises have their rights denied and needs neglected.
Up to 14 million older people with disabilities may be affected by humanitarian disasters. They are among those most at risk, yet little attention has been paid to their particular experiences, and how far their needs and rights are met in humanitarian contexts.
In this seminar, we will present findings from research undertaken by LSHTM and HelpAge International exploring the experiences of older people with disabilities in humanitarian crises settings. This included a systematic review as well as qualitative research in refugee camps in Western Tanzania and in conflict affected areas of Eastern Ukraine. We will discuss the findings from this research as well as key recommendations to promote inclusion.
Speakers include
- Sarah Polack, Associate Professor International Centre of Evidence in Disability at LSHTM
- Madeleine McGivern, Global Humanitarian Advocacy Advisor, HelpAge International
