MARCH Centre Student Careers Event

For students who are hoping to forge a career relating to maternal, reproductive, newborn, child and adolescent health.

We have invited a wide range of speakers with extensive experience in many different fields related to the MARCH streams. They will speak about their career path and the challenges they have faced and their everyday working life, and answer student’s questions as part of a small panel. The panel will be chaired by Professor Joy Lawn, Director of the MARCH Centre.

Speakers:

Dr Kathryn Church, a Lecturer in Sexual and Reproductive Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Kathryn works for Marie Stopes International as their Senior Scientific Advisor within their Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Team. She also co-organises the Family Planning module and teaches on various other modules at the School.

Dr. Rosamund Southgate is public health specialist at the humanitarian medical relief charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in London, UK. Dr. Southgate has worked in a number of capacities with WHO/Europe, the WHO Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the Global Health Security Initiative.

Saira Shameen has spent over 12 years within the UN system, and presently heads the United Nations Population Fund country office in Malaysia where she manages a complex programme addressing persistent pockets of marginalization within a middle-income country context. She has been working in the field of human rights, women’s rights and the right to health for the last 27 years in various capacities, spanning community mobilization, public education, organisational development, advocacy as well as national and international policy development. She is currently pursuing a MSc in Public Health for Development at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Ben Allen has worked for Action Against Hunger (ACF) in the evaluation of humanitarian response, nutrition, food insecurity, and WASH interventions. He has supported various NGOs and UN agencies in the evaluation of programmes to treat undernutrition. He is currently pursuing a MSc in Public Health for Development at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
