The effects of childhood exposure to violence on experiences of intimate partner victimisation and perpetration in young adulthood: A cohort study in Uganda

16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence

LSHTM Event

Both violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC) are recognised as global public health and human rights issues. But how do we understand the intersection between experiencing violence in childhood and experience and use of violence in later life? Using data from a cohort study in Luwero, Uganda, this talk will overview the longitudinal impact of different patterns of VAC experience on later life intimate partner violence. Further, this talk will provide methodological commentary on issues in measurement of VAC and on how violence can be established as a cause, while reflecting on the possible implications of causal links between VAC & VAW for programmatic action.
