Peter's role at LSHTM has been split evenly between research and teaching management since January 2020. He is currently interim Taguht Programme Director in PHP.

Peter is currently interim Taught Programme Director in PHP. He is also the Lead Programme Director for the face-to-face (intensive) MSc Public Health (since January 2020), having previously been the Exam Board Chair (2017-2020) and Deputy Exam Board Chair (2015-17) for the same degree. He currently chairs the termly intensive MSc Programme Committee (since September 2020) and has been the Stream Advisor for Health Promotion across the MSc Public Health degree (since September 2012). He is a Seminar leader and lecturer on the Foundations of Health Promotion (1109) module in term 1 and the module organiser for the Integrating Module: Health Promotion (1806) in term 3. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE) and is currently working toward his Senior Fellowship.
Research
Peter was the Director of Sigma Research from 1997 to 2020, and has worked as a research and evaluation specialist since 1989. He is Head of the Sexual & Reproductive Health Group in the department of Public Health, Environments and Society (PHES/ PHP). In addition to sexual and reproductive health he is interested in development and evaluation of community and structural interventions that address health inequalities especially in relation to mental health, drug use and youth violence. He has extensive experience of needs assessment, process and programme evaluation and has written more than 130 journal articles, a book, and over 100 research reports, monographs and book chapters.
