I鈥檓 a public health researcher with more than 10 years of experience of research in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and indoor air pollution in low and middle income settings. Experienced working on impact and process evaluations, formative research and intervention design, systematic reviews and management of evaluations. I have worked in India, Rwanda, Ivory Coast and Burundi, working in both English and French. Since the Covid19 pandemic I worked remotely with teams in Lebanon, Zimbabwe, DRC, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Somalia.

I'm one of the theme leads for Evidence Synthesis in the Centre for Evaluation.

I have a BSc in biology with honours in zoology from The University of Edinburgh (2009), an MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases from LSHTM (2012) and a PhD from LSHTM (2017).

Research

My research interests have been focused on the impact of environmental health interventions. I am currently leading the WASH theme in the Afya consortium鈥攁 multi-disciplinary, collaborative research programme that seeks to generate evidence on public health threats in populations affected by crises. As part of this project, I'm working closely with organisations in South Sudan and Somalia, strengthening their research capacity, promoting shared learning and supporting the teams to generate evidence on handwashing practices in two extreme weather contexts.

Previously, my research focused on sanitation and child faeces management, which was the focus of my PhD. As part of my PhD, I looked at practices, determinants and health impacts of child faeces disposal. The work included a cross-sectional study in India and a Cochrane systematic review. I have also been involved in research to design and evaluate behaviour change interventions to improve latrine use and child faeces disposal in India.

I have also worked on evaluations of the impact of improved and LPG cookstoves on household air pollution in Rwanda, and on the impact of water filters on water quality.
