Ms Rose Burns

Research Fellow

United Kingdom

I joined the Department of Global Health and Development in 2019 as a Research Fellow. My background is in the NGO and humanitarian sector where I've worked since 2009 conducting social science research to inform clinical and health programming and evaluations in HIV/AIDS and gender based violence across different sub-Saharan African and Pacific settings. Most recently I spent several years based in East Africa with M茅decins Sans Fronti猫res/Epicentre.

At LSHTM I work on the which aims to generate evidence on community-led vaccine deployment strategies in humanitarian contexts in partnership with IFRC and the National Societies of Ethiopia and Nigeria. I have also been working across the social science components of two Ebola vaccine trials: and . My research on these projects focusses on preparedness for future outbreaks, including understanding gaps in preparedness through gender and health system lenses, and development of our transnational platform for social science and community engagement in vaccine trials. These projects cover Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia, DRC and Mali. I also work closely with the Politics and Anthropology of Violence and Epidemics team (PAVE).

My staff PhD focuses on health service responses and help-seeking for violence against women during outbreaks in Sierra Leone.
