Dr Brotherton is a Clinical Assistant Professor at MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM and a Consultant Paediatrician/Neonatologist at NHS Fife. After completing General Paediatric speciality training in Edinburgh (2015) she undertook a Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellowship and PhD with LSHTM (2016 - 2022), focused on preterm care and KMC. She is currently combining clinical UK neonatal work with part-time research in The Gambia, supporting outputs from the PregnAnZI-2 clinical trial and leading a pilot study to understand within-host diversity of Klebsiella pneumoniae

Teaching
I have been a distance learning tutor on IDM301 (Epidemiology & Control of Infectious Diseases) from Dec 2018 to 2021. I am also a Master Trainer on Helping Babies Breathe (MRC Unit The Gambia / Imperial College Hospital) and was Faculty on the East African Diploma in Tropical Medicine (eaDTM), Maternal & Neonatal Module, 2018. I am certified Neonatal Life Support instructor.
