I am a public health social sciences researcher with a disciplinary background in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Damascus University; I am interested in public health research within conflict settings focusing on the Arab World. I hold an MSc in Public Health for Development from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
Recipient of the prestigious Chevening Scholarship in 2018, I embarked on my academic journey in the UK. Some main projects included investigations into health system governance and adaptation in Syria, crisis-attributable mortality estimation in Yemen, governance of childhood vaccination within crisis settings and the intersection between violence against women and violence against children in the MENA region.
I am the co-founder and co-director of Syria Research Group (SyRG) under the SCaHR programme ( Security, Conflict and Health Research). SyRG is a collaborative platform hosted between LSHTM and NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. SyRG focuses on rigorous interdisciplinary health policy and systems research within Syria, which may expand as we grow to include related projects within the region and among Syrian refugee and diaspora communities.
