Alumni Survey 2020 Feedback
2 March 2021 London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine https://lshtm.ac.uk/themes/custom/lshtm/images/lshtm-logo-black.pngThank you so much to the 2,000 alumni who took part in the 2020 alumni survey at the end of last year.
We will be using the results to inform our activities for the year, our alumni relations strategy and LSHTM鈥檚 wider Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy.
It was fantastic to see that 4.6 out of 5 alumni would recommend LSHTM to others, and 4.5 out of 5 alumni strongly identify with LSHTM鈥檚 mission to improve health worldwide.
In comparison, 3.4 out of 5 alumni feel connected to LSHTM. We will work hard to provide you with more opportunities to connect to and engage with us.
In September, we were really excited to launch , our online alumni website and app, including an online alumni directory, mentoring platform, interest and location groups, news, events and online networking. is also open to staff and students to help you build closer relationships with LSHTM, each other and alumni.
We worked with the LSHTM EDI team on questions about your experiences during your studies. It is encouraging that 4.14 out of 5 alumni feel LSHTM values EDI and 4.24 felt comfortable talking about their culture and background. We noted that 3.8 out of 5 alumni felt confident that if they reported harassment or discrimination action would be taken.
People replied with positive and negative experiences of studying at LSHTM. All of this feedback is extremely valuable as we review and improve our culture and processes and develop our new EDI strategy. Find out more information on our full range of EDI initiatives.
A number of alumni told us they felt very positive about LSHTM鈥檚 new decolonising work but felt that this work could be better communicated. Some people told us that they were unaware of this work and would like to hear more about it. We will include more information about this in alumni communications and will be organising events and discussions on decolonising health and decolonising LSHTM.
We asked alumni to rank LSHTM鈥檚 strategic research priorities. The top three were:
- Infectious diseases
- Pandemic preparedness and response
- Vaccines and vaccine confidence
Finally, we asked people to feedback on our alumni programme. Common feedback included:
- Praise for recent initiatives, like the mentoring programme and LSHTM Connect.
- People not being aware of the range of activities currently offered (and being keen to learn more).
- Suggestions for new services and benefits include online journal access, access to online lectures, more alumni chapters and more internships and formal career support.
- People looking forward to the return of face-to-face events after the pandemic.
